SUMMARY
After a hurricane destroys their home, three children draw on the stories of their childhood, ancestry, and land to keep and sustain the hope it takes to survive.
NOTE:
Given the cultural specificity of this play, we are especially interested in actors who self-identify as: Black, Bahamian, Afro-Caribbean, and/or African descent/origin. Although gender is infused into each character description, we are accepting everyone to audition for any and all roles.
ROLES: (looking for actors ages 16 – 30s. Actors who can convincingly take on the mannerisms of the children and their ages.
EVETTE:
Age 12 – 14 years old. She is the eldest of three children. Though she is wild, playful and bit bossy, she also has an adventurous and nurturing nature. She is very protective of her younger siblings but doesn’t hesitate to taunt them mischievously for her own enjoyment.
BONNIE:
Age 10 – 12 years old. She is the middle child and unlike her older sister, is more reserved and apprehensive. She is a bit more hesitant to be adventurous and only leans into playfulness when she forgets her anxiousness. She is both protective of, and easily annoyed by her little brother, and often feels the need to remind everyone of common sense.
MALIK:
Age 6 – 8 years old. Malik sees the world for all its magic and wonder and often has difficulty grasping any sense of danger or seriousness. He is confident and curious, and wildly independent in his thinking. But he is also unquestionably trusting of his sisters, especially Evette.

General Auditions
Every Spring Obsidian holds General Auditions, looking for actors from the African Diaspora. These should be performers who are new to the profession/Toronto or actors who have not auditioned for us in the past two years.
Please note that due to the COVID-19 crisis we will be postponing this spring’s General Auditions until FURTHER NOTICE. Stay tuned for more information, and thank you for your patience.
An important part of our General Auditions is meeting you face-to-face and engaging in a dialogue about your work. For this reason, we have opted not to do video auditions for generals. However, when we do come back to this, we will accept video submissions on a case by case basis as we have always done in the past.
Information on these will be disseminated through our mailing list, which you can sign up for here.
