 OBSIDIAN IN 2012

Obsidian came out ontop at the 2012 Dora Mavor Moore Awards celebrating excellence in Theatre. With an unprecedented 14 nominations in eight categories, more than any other company, Obsidian went home with seven awards.

Topdog/Underdog was the little play that could.  Directed by Philip Akin (Winner Outstanding Direction of a Play) and with two of Canada’s finest actors Kevin Hanchard (Nominee Outstanding Male Performance) and Nigel Shawn Williams (Winner Outstanding Male Performance).   Produced in association with the Shaw Festival  this gripping two hander took the night by storm winning the final

award for Outstanding Production.

Another triumph was Obsidian’s first musical Caroline, or Change produced in association with Acting Upstage. Not only did the show win Outstanding Musical Production, but it swept the awards taking both the best acting in a musical honors for Arlene Duncan and Sterling Jarvis.  Reza Jacobs won in the Best Musical Direction category.

A big congratulations to all the nominees and winners!!
